He was born in Piacenza on May 16, 1937. He pursued his studies in Alberoni College in Piacenza and Siena, then he graduated in History of Church at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome .


He was ordained priest on June 30, 1963, by His Excellency Monsignor Umberto Malchiodi, Bishop of Piacenza and family friend.

He has taught History of Church at Alberoni College and at PontificalGregorian University: After having the “Emeritato”, he has taught History of Papal Diplomacy at the Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome, a prestigious school for papal diplomats’ training.


He has published, over the years, a number of books and essays which have been translated into many languages, thus giving an international dimension to his contribution as priest and scholar.


The first area of his interests was the clergies training, priests representation and the Vincentian History. The second one was the editing of new histories of the Church; it came in 70s. The third area was the one on gallicanism and Jansenism. The fourth one was that of popular missions in Modern Time. The fifth concerned his studies in modern spirituality and tried to enter into the spirituality of the Church’s History. The sixth area is related to French Revolution. The author tries to understand the change of Church’s situation that took place in 700. The seventh was the study of Reforms’ Age.
